 Assistant commissioner of police was Axed to death in Cross River  An Assistant Commissioner of Police serving, ACP Egbe Eko Edum has been reportedly axed to death in Calabar, Cross River State Capital. The attack took place in the early hours of Wednesday, December 2, at about 1:00 am along Murtala Mohammed Highway in Calabar by Pepsi depot, sources said. Police Public Relations Officer of Cross River State Command DSP Irene Ugbo confirmed the incident saying that the late officer came into Calabar to see his family but arrived late at night hours. “He dropped off from a public transport and had called his wife to pick him up before he was attacked by the unknown men. We are investigating the incident and the family has recovered the body from the seen,” the PPRO explained. She reiterated that the deceased “is an Assistant Commissioner of Police who serves in Borno State; he is not serving here. Okonjo-Iweala: Details of Buhari’s meeting with European Council Presidents emerge President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday held a video conference with Mr Charles Michel, President of the European Council, during which the latter reiterated Europe’s support for Nigeria’s Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as the next Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO). The President is leading Nigeria’s charge for Okonjo-Iweala, the country’s former Minister of Finance, to emerge as the first Black and female WTO DG. President Buhari thanked the European Council for its support for Nigeria’s candidate. Also discussed during the conference were issues bordering on debt relief for Africa, EU-African relations and recharge of Lake Chad, which has currently shrunk to less than one-third of its usual size. The lake has reportedly thrown about 130 million people who depend on it for their livelihoods into dire straits.
